A Few More Green Cooking Tips!

Limit your oven use. As a lower energy option use a toaster oven or microwave when possible. When a larger oven is necessary, the experts suggest skipping the preheat unless it’s a delicate recipe(soufflé for example….and count me in if it is!). Put several dishes in the oven at once.

• When replacing appliances look for Energy Star options

Use the proper size pot for the burner, and use lids when possible as it reduces cooking time.

Cook from scratch. Saves on packaging, long distance shipping of prepared foods, and fewer additives, so you know what you are eating.

Buy local. In winter if you use fresh herbs, buy a potted plant and then you will have it for dishes for weeks(months?) to come. Maybe you can keep it alive for outdoor spring planting.
