Celebrate a Wisconsin First!

The nation’s first electric fire truck is reducing diesel emissions in Madison, Wisconsin. The Volterra Zero Emission Fire Engine is made by Pierce Manufacturing of Appleton and gets its power from batteries instead of diesel. Pierce is a subsidiary of Oshkosh Corp., which recently won a contract to supply all-electric delivery vehicles for the U.S. Postal Service.

“Coupled with cleaner sources of energy, electric vehicles are seen as the best way to clean up the transportation sector, the nation’s single largest source of greenhouse gas emissions,” reporter Chris Hubbuch writes. Find out more about the unveiling of the all-electric fire truck this month in his article from the Wisconsin State Journal.
