Sir David Attenborough - Saving Nature, Saving Ourselves

Sir David Attenborough the legendary wildlife filmmaker, reflects in this 60 Minutes interview on his love of nature and the importance of saving it and tackling climate change. He’s inspired by the youth of the world, by the emergence of solar energy and battery storage technologies to help reduce emissions, and by the impact of the pandemic in helping us all appreciate nature just a little more. Notable excerpts:

Sir David Attenborough: “In the course of this particular pandemic that we’re going through, people are discovering that they need the natural world for their very sanity. People who had never listened to a bird song are suddenly thrilled, excited, supported, inspired by the natural world. And they realize that they’re not apart from it. They are part of it.”

Anderson Cooper: “So by saving nature, we’re saving ourselves?”

Sir David Attenborough: “Oh, absolutely.”

“There’s a huge movement around the world of people from all nations, young people, who can see what is happening to the world, and demanding that their governments take action. That’s the best hope I have.”
